Fairgrounds preps for 'Classic' weekend

The people who put on the annual Wichita Mountains Classic Pig and Lamb Show hope this weekend will be a repeat of last year’s success story.

Hundreds of entrants

Despite the fact there were six other livestock shows going on that weekend, exhibitors overwhelmingly preferred Lawton’s. Comanche County Fairgrounds Executive Director Phil Humble had expected 250 entrants, and 400 showed up for the first day of judging. The parking lot was full, and livestock trailers were lined up on Sheridan Road waiting to get in.

Voters to test machines

Do you want to vote on the “Best of Oklahoma?” Then plan to take part in a mock election Monday through Thursday, when every county in the state will participate in a trial run for the new statewide voting system.

Comanche County voting will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day in the county election board office in the Comanche County Courthouse. Times for other counties vary, although voting is on the same dates everywhere.

On the ballot this week will be six questions asking voters to decide on the best Oklahoma actor, sports team, athlete, Oklahoma musician, historical role model and best treat.
