The Comanche County Oklahoma State University Extension Center will have a “meet and greet” Friday for its new Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) extension educator, Anne King.

The event will be from 1-3 p.m. at the extension office, 611 SW C. Extension Director Marty New said the position had been vacant for nearly a year.

Anne KingKing said she is looking forward to getting acquainted with all the OHCE members. She is originally from Guttenberg, N.J. What originally brought her to Oklahoma was that she liked “the atmosphere, the people, just the charismatic nature. I was looking for something different. I looked at different schools and it just fit.”

She earned her bachelor of science degree in nutritional science with an emphasis in dietetics from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, in 2006. She earned her master’s degree in food and nutrition management from the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, in December 2007.

Upon graduating, she worked as a clinical dietitian for four years at Wise Regional Health System in Decatur, Texas. There she did some outpatient consults and nutritional education and counseling. She participated in community health fairs, educating employees and the public. She worked with diabetic support groups and served as guest speaker for the Texas AgriLife Extension Service “Do well, be well” diabetes program . She also helped judge some of its 4-H youth competitions.

“I love what they do, so that’s kind of what sparked my interest for more community outreach and affecting the public and being able to help,” she said.

OHCE is a whole new experience for her, so she is hoping to learn a lot from its members here and hopefully they can learn something from her as well.
