Board of County Commissioners Sign Disaster Emergency Proclamation for Comanche County, OK

Lawton, OK:  At their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, March 23rd, the Comanche County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) discussed and resolved unanimously to declare a disaster/emergency for Comanche County due to the COVID-19 situation. This decision was made due to the prevailing health crisis affecting this nation and the world, and the urgent need for the public to take preventative action to avoid contracting and spreading COVID-19.

The BOCC acknowledges the guidance of our local, state, and national public health officials who recommend that everyone maintain physical distance between themselves and individuals who are outside their immediate family unit. This “social distancing” is critical to ensuring the health and well-being of at-risk populations and to reduce the strain on our healthcare system. To assist in this effort, and to assure its effectiveness, the BOCC passed a separate resolution ordering the temporary closure of all restaurants, bars, and taverns located in unincorporated Comanche County starting March 23, 2020 at 5:00pm. These establishments may still facilitate to-go or curbside food service. While these closures are temporary, the BOCC has not set an end date at this time.
