County to begin debris removal |
|
The Comanche County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) held a special meeting Wednesday morning to determine their next course of action after being approved for a major disaster declaration for the recent ice storm. The expected announcement came late Friday evening after the White House approved 25 counties in Oklahoma, including Comanche County, for the disaster.
The declaration allows for federal reimbursement from FEMA for debris removal and management of the process. The BOCC reviewed numerous contract applications and bids before deciding to accept a contract with Young’s General Contracting, Inc., Poplar Bluff, MO, for debris removal. Another contract with Neel-Schaffer, Inc., Fort Worth, TX, was accepted for management of the debris removal process. The contracts are estimated at $600,000 for debris removal and $150,000 for management however the contracts are dependent upon the amount of debris.
