Susan Ulrich was born in Duncan, OK and raised in nearby Comanche, OK until she reached the seventh grade. Her family then moved to Cache, OK where she later graduated from Cache High School in 1976. Ulrich also received certification in Marketing and Distribution from Great Plains Area Vo-Tech in 1976. Susan worked various jobs before taking on a part-time role for the Comanche County Treasurer in 1982. After 2 years of part-time service, Ulrich began working full-time for the county clerk’s office at the Comanche County Courthouse in 1983. Ulrich worked in the county clerk’s office for 20 years before deciding to run for district 3 commissioner of Comanche County. She won the November 2002 election and began her term as commissioner in January of 2003. Susan was the first woman to be elected to the Comanche County Board of Commissioners and is currently serving her second term as district 3 commissioner. She was also the first ever female county commissioner in Oklahoma to be certified as “County Road Scholar”. In addition, she has received certification and accreditation from Oklahoma State University for the County Commissioner Training Program and County Commissioner Advanced Program. Through her tenure as commissioner, Ulrich has been instrumental in creating a strong and respected county employee safety program which has received numerous state awards. She continues to be very active in the community, fighting local childhood obesity through public speaking and appearances, serving on several different committees and represents her constituents at the local, state and federal levels of government.
