The District Attorney’s office is responsible for prosecuting criminal offenses in the district. Comanche County is located in District 5, which includes Comanche and Cotton County.
The District Attorney is also responsible for providing legal opinion and advice to the Board of County Commissioners and other county officers. The District Attorney represents the county in any civil lawsuit involving the county in state or federal court. This includes representing any county employee in court for any action involving the employee’s official conduct and duties.
The District Attorney’s office also assists a grand jury by issuing subpoenas, examining witnesses, advising the grand jury and drafting indictments.
Bogus Check Services are also handled by the District Attorney’s office. Before charges are filed, every effort is made to contact the offenders so they can make good on payments. If such efforts fail, the District Attorney’s office is vigorous in prosecuting bogus check crimes.
Victim and Witness Assistance is a very important service handled by the District Attorney’s office. This program provides valuable assistance to the most important people in the criminal justice system: the victims of crimes and the courageous citizens who testify in court against those criminals who prey upon the law-abiding citizens of District 5. The Victim and Witness Center is located in Room 201 at the Comanche County Courthouse.
